If you are a US business comparing web developer quotes, you have likely seen two different planets: local agencies quoting $5,000 to $25,000, and remote developers quoting a tenth of that. Both can be legitimate. This post explains how US web pricing actually works, when the agency price is worth paying, and when you are simply paying for overhead — plus the practicalities of hiring remotely from Europe.

The US gap is structural: directories like Clutch put senior US freelance rates at roughly $95-$190/hour, and NYC costs about 1.8x Madrid to live in. None of that is a scam — it is arithmetic. The question is only whether YOUR project needs to pay that arithmetic. A marketing site with no on-site requirement does not.
When the US agency price IS worth it
Honesty first: hire local when you need on-site workshops, regulated-industry compliance work with US-only vendors, or a 10-person team shipping in parallel against a hard deadline. When it is overhead

Do I own the domain, the code and the data from day one? Vague answers mean you are buying process, not a website.
The remote practicalities nobody explains
- Time zones: US Eastern is 6 hours behind Spain. It works fine in practice: you write in your evening, I deliver in your morning. Overlap hours exist for calls when needed
- Payment: Wise or SEPA transfer in EUR, or PayPal. No wire-transfer drama, no hidden FX margins if you use Wise at the real exchange rate
- Language: fluent working English, written quotes, video calls when useful
